Introduction and Background
|
|
The goal of the Testing & Counselling for PMTCT
Support
Tools
is to facilitate the delivery of essential PMTCT messages to improve
the uptake of HIV testing, increase the number of women who know their HIV status,
and provide appropriate PMTCT interventions. The
Support Tools
respond to an
urgent need for educational materials, job aids, and training resources in
resource-constrained settings to support the integration of TC into antenatal care,
labour and delivery and post-delivery settings. The
Support Tools
promote
provider-initiated, routine opt-out HIV testing with rapid tests and same day
results, as well as the provision of TC services on first contact between the client
and the healthcare worker and the use of group pre-test sessions to optimize
resources.
The
Support Tools
were developed by the United States
Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Global AIDS Program, in collaboration with the Department of HIV/AIDS at the World
Health Organization, United Nations Children's Fund and United States Agency for
International Development and their implementing partners. These tools are also available in
French

Format of Training Exchange
|
|
Participants can join the conference call either by calling in a few
minutes prior to the start of the call or by requesting (at the time of
registration) that the operator call them and join them to the conference call.
Collaborating partners will present using PowerPoint slides, the
Support
Tools
and additional materials that participants can download from this page
prior to the call. Some of the presentations will be followed by Q&A. All
participants' phone lines will be muted until this time. The operator will give
instructions for asking questions.

|
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
|
-
Is there a cost to register for the Training
Exchange?
There is no cost to register. The purpose of registration is
for the sponsors to better understand who is planning to attend the Training
Exchange.
-
What is the format of this Training Exchange?
Participants will download presentation slide sets for review beforehand (posted
and downloadable from the web at least a week prior). The format will be an
interactive phone-based training.
-
There will be five short presentations on each of the agenda topics
outlined above (5-10 minutes each).
-
In-Country Case Examples
will be followed by a 10-minutes Q/A
period.
-
Once all presentations have been made, an operator-assisted Question and
Answer session will follow (approximately 25 minutes). The operator will
provide instructions on how to ask a question.
-
An additional 30-minute period for questions and comments will be
available from 10:30 to 11:00 am Eastern Time.
-
Will I receive Continuing Education (CE) or Continuing Medical
Education (CME) credit for participating in this Training Exchange?
We are not able to offer participants CE credit for participation. The purpose
of this training Exchange is to provide a forum to learning about and sharing
experiences in using the T&C
Support Tools
.
-
What happens once I register?
Registrants will
receive an email with further information about participating in the Training
Exchange, including information on accessing the call on the day of the Training
Exchange.
-
How do I know which materials I need to have in front of me on
November 10th?
Materials will be available for download from the
FXB Center's Women, Children, and HIV website
(www.WomenChildrenHIV.org)
approximately one week prior to the call. All registrants will receive an email
alert once the materials have been posted. You may print the materials and have
them in front of you while on the call - or, you may view them on your computer
screen. We suggest printing them out in advance to avoid any technical
difficulties.
-
Do I have to download the materials in advance? Can't I view
them from the website at the time of the call?
Participants who
prefer to view the PowerPoint slides or other background documents on the
website during the call may, of course, do that. But, as many of the background
materials for this Training Exchange are large documents (in terms of memory)
and may take a few minutes to download, we suggest downloading them in advance
and then viewing from a local drive/server rather than on line.
-
Do I have to be on for the entire Training Exchange?
We encourage you to join us for the main part of the call (the first 90
minutes), which will include an overview and history of Testing &
Counselling for PMTCT, a review of the
Support Tools
, specific country
experiences and a question and answer period. We have scheduled the call to
continue for an additional 30 minutes to ensure that all participant questions
are addressed, and we encourage you to stay on the call for this wrap-up
session.
